Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again

By Rachel Held Evans

In the introduction Rachel Held Evans shares how the stories of the Bible have a different meaning or understanding to her when she was young and how they changed in meaning when she got older. The stories we learn in Sunday School may mean a whole different thing to us later in life. The rest of the book she divides into eight sections to write a different view about eight stories of the Bible giving a different view to each one. She uses the story of Esther, Moses, Job and others. In one of the stories, the story of Job, she writes it as a screenplay, others she changes or added to the stories. I was not a fan of some of the changes she did, but then I do not care for most changes done in movies. I had trouble following the point she was trying to make in some of the stories.

You may like the direction she took the stories, but it was not what I expected when I requested the book and was disappointed in the book. The book is well written and easy to read.

I received this book free from the publisher through the BookLook Bloggers book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255
