Christ's 40 Commandments

CHRIST’S 40 COMMANDMENTS

Compiled by Renee Valverde Wagenblatt

The author has compiled 40 commandments or instructions from the teachings of Jesus Christ in the four Gospels. As she read the Gospels and Jesus gave an instruction she made a list of them and came up with 40, she calls them commandments.  Matthew is the only Gospel that contains all of them. These are important instructions for us to live our lives, just as the Ten Commandments from the Old Testament are important. Normally we only think of two commandments from the New Testament but all the instructions given by Jesus are commandments. Renee has made a alphabetical list of each with associated verses found in the four Gospels. On occasion, she has included adjacent verses to give clarification.
The author done this listing for the purpose of sharing the Gospel of Christ and admits she is not a Bible scholar and only wants to share the comments or instruction of Jesus.
I think this is an important list and may be used many ways in helping with understanding the Bible. It would be great for group study and a way to help kids to get to know the teachings of Jesus. A very enjoyable ebook and contain a lot of information.

ANSWERING THE TOUGHEST QUESTIONS ABOUT GOD AND THE BIBLE

ANSWERING THE TOUGHEST QUESTIONS
ABOUT GOD AND THE BIBLE

By Bruce Bickel & Stan Jantz
with Christopher Greer

Got questions about God and the Bible, that OK everyone has had questions in this area. Bruce and Stan do their best in this book to try to answer those questions.
Questions like:
Is God real and How can you know?
Why doesn’t God make Himself obvious?
Can I trust what the Bible says about God/
Is Jesus God?
These and many more questions receive answers in this well written and informative book. Ten chapters that ask the questions and the authors do their best to answer them. Each chapter starts with an introduction to the questions. Some of the questions came from Chris Greer, a pastor, who asked people individually and in small groups by online surveys for questions that they might have. The questions asked are shown and answered, discussion questions are offered at the end of each section. The layout is very helpful if you would like to use the book in a study group or just for your own private reading.
Quoting from the rear cover of the book;
“With candor, insight, and a disarming touch of humor, Bruce and Stan provide some answers to these critical questions, yet they leave enough space ---and grace--- for you to keep wrestling, asking, and seeking truth.”
I found the book very interesting and contained Biblical facts and answers that are reliable and informative.

Daniel Code

THE DANIEL CODE

Living Out Truth in a Culture That is Losing Its Way

By O. S. Hawkins

This book is a study of the book of Daniel; the author takes the first six chapters of Daniel and offers a comparison of Daniel’s time and our times. In the introduction he start in the 50’s and comes through the next five decades showing how our country has changed, he calls it Culture Shock. Using the book of Daniel, what Daniel and his friends went through in Babylon, will offer a look into how we can use the information Daniel gives us and stay true to Godin our beliefs. The author talks about changes we have tolerated over the decades, our prideful culture and that we need to show our integrity at these times. We need to be effective culture warrior and stand up for what we believe to be right. By comparing, our culture to Daniel’s time should help us realize that we need to be strong and hold to our beliefs as Daniel and his friends did.

The book is easy to read and understand, contains a lot of information and opens a new way to compare our culture to the culture of the Old Testament. A short study but one that will help today’s culture.

REFLECTIONS OF GOD’S GRACE

Inspiring Devotions For Godly Living

By Michelle Hanna

A collection of over 70 beautiful and inspiring stories that share God Love. Michelle Hanna has put together this collection of her own stories that she had shared on social media. They are some of her personal sorrows as well as some good and happy times that she has experience in life to show everyone how God is with us in all things and will see us through the tough times as well as the easy times. She writes in a very easy to understand method and adds scripture verses to show what God want to do in everyone’s life. This collection should help all who read them. Done in the form of a devotional, you may want to read them more than once.

I found her stories interesting and show her love of God in all. The book is not a long book but very informative and I found them helpful in many ways.

Out of Egypt part 2

SHADOW OF THE STORM

Out of Egypt

By Connilyn Cossette

Shadow of the Storm is the second book by Connilyn Cossette in her Out of Egypt series. Her first book, Counted With the Stars, was about a Egyptian slave girl who left Egypt with the Hebrews at the Exodus. This was a different viewpoint of the exodus. The second book continues the story, starting at the base of the mountain when Moses receives the Ten Commandments. A story of two women who are different in many ways and work together as midwifes. The story is filled with intrigue and struggles. Shira is dealing with wanting to be a midwife and not working with her mother as a weaver. While learning to be a midwife, there is a problem with a delivery and she blames herself.  Dvorah, has her own agenda of being a single mom, since her husband was killed at the golden calf celebration and trying to get away from husband’s family. The two clash throughout the story. The story is a love story with intrigue and struggles of the two women, one who believes in God and the other who is an idol worshipper.

The story contains Biblical facts and what took place with the golden calf, Moses return with the tablets and the building of the Tent of the Tabernacle. The author gives detailed descriptions of the different events and her writing will hold your interest.

I found the story believable and very factual, the story is a story that most are familiar with and show just what might have been happening to the people. Beautifully written and very informative to make a great novel.

66 Ways

66 WAYS GOD LOVES YOU

Experience God’s Love for You in Every Book of the Bible

By Jennifer Rothschild

God loves you, this book by Jennifer Rothschild points out 66 ways that He does. She uses a theme from each book of the Bible and shared one reason from each book.

In Genesis God Fashions Me with His Hands

In Ruth My Kinsman-Redeemer Grafts Me into His Family

In Obadiah God Stands Up For Me

In John God Gives Me Everlasting Life

This is just some of the ways that God’s love is shown in four books of the Bible. Jennifer writes a short, but inspiring and meaningful message for each book showing God’s love in each book. The book is beautifully illustrated and easy to read and understand. A great addition to anyone’s daily reading.

An incredible message of love from God in the 66 books of the Bible, One thing to remember this book only shows 66 ways that God loves you; the Bible contains all the ways.

I believe this book will open the door for you to find more ways that God love you. The book is scriptural, loaded with information and will be a blessing every day as you read and re-read it.

Misconceptions

MISCONCEPTIONS

A look at God’s Word through first century Hebraic eyes

By Steven Reider

This book offers a view of Jesus that is different from most other books. The view is from a Hebrew culture of the first century. The authors has done some research into the Hebrew culture and Hebrew words, as to the accuracy I am not going to base my review on that. He expresses his own opinions and beliefs, which is no different from what other writers have done, some I agree with others I do not. I believe the author love the Lord and for a layperson has put together a book of information that is worth reading, agree with it or not, he has a lot of interesting information to share. He uses the CJB and NIV translations for some of the verses he quotes throughout his book.

The book is small but in my opinion, an interesting read. The author is sharing what he has discovered from his research and has made a good effort on sharing it. His beliefs are not that much different from some other things I have read.  The writing was easy to read and understand.

NKJV Word Bible Study

NKJV - WORD STUDY BIBLE

Published by Thomas Nelson Publisher

Some may say, “Not another study Bible”. With all the study Bibles that are available today, this one is difference. It has 1700 words that you will find underlined as you read the scriptures; each has a definition of that word and other scriptures verses that use that word. In addition, it gives the Hebrew or Greek root word to help you understand the meaning.

An alphabetical listing of the English translation of each word is included. A numerical index of the Hebrew word and Greek word will help in locating the root words. An index in of scriptures of where to find the words used is a definite plus for use in a Bible study. A large concordance is included for your convenience.

An example of word info:

       love - 1 John 2:15 - G0026 agape

       love - Ps 97:150 - H0157 ahab

Each of the 1700 underlined words have a similar reference.

I believe this Word Study Bible would a great addition to anyone's reference library and welcome addition to a Bible Study group.

A Fresh Infusion of Joy

5 MINUTES WITH JESUS

A Fresh Infusion of joy

By Sheila Walsh with Sherri Gragg

This is not a typical devotional; the author starts with short stories, about 2 pages in length, and then offers some Bible verses, three or four, that go along with the stories. The main difference is that the subject of the stories is joy. Throughout this book, you will be able to see and feel the joy of Jesus. It will help you to live more joyfully and accept the gift of joy that only God can give. It is easy to read and understand. Some of the stories are inspiring and some are funny, but all are an encouragement to life. Grace, creation and other things can bring joy into our lives and the author shows God’s goodness and love in the stories shared.

I would recommend this book be added to your daily reading time and used with any other forms of daily readings that you may use. It would make a great gift for someone you wanted to share some joy.

Answers to the End Times

ANSWERS TO

THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

ABOUT THE END TIMES

By Dr. John Hart

Questions about the end times such as; Who is the antichrist?, What is Armageddon?, What is the rapture and when will it happen?, these and many more questions are answered by Dr. John Hart in this book. He takes us through the book of Revelations explaining each chapter in detail. He explains what is in the prophecy and the timeline of what will take place. The end times are something that most people have questions about and can be one of the most confusing parts of God’s Word. The second coming of Christ will happen but no one knows when it will take place. Dr. John Hart does a great job of explaining what will happen. He uses God’s own word to explain what must happen, but only God the Father knows when. This book is a guidebook to help people understand what and why is going to take place.

I think this book would make an excellent Bible study and a great book for discussion groups. It is full of important information that we all need to know and understand.

Outlaw Christian

OUTLAW CHRISTIAN

Finding Authentic Faith by Breaking the “Rules”

By Jacqueline A. Bussie

Don’t quote, don’t be angry, never ask questions, grieve in secret -- These are the unwritten “rules” of modern Christianity. For the author, a faith governed by these rules is stifling, unsustainable, and dishonest. In this book Jacqueline Bussie takes your through the “rules” and explains why she believes that we need to be an outlaw Christian. She is a professor of religion at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. She shares stories about people and herself to prove her point about how the “rules” can sometimes do more harm than good. She shares what she teaches her students and shows prove, by using scripture, about what she is claiming. She offers help to everyone to have a stronger faith and calls for a faith that laments, loves, laughs, longs, and lives, but never lies.

The book is easy to understand, the stories are interesting and not overwhelming with theology but a true way to understand God and His Word. Her hope is that you will be open and become an outlaw Christian and that your faith will increase. I enjoyed this book and found some very interesting facts and would suggest that this be used for discussion groups.

Intercessory Prayer

INTERCESSORY PRAYER

How God Can Use Your Prayers to Move Heaven and Earth

By Dutch Sheets

Prayer, what do know about prayer? What is intercessory prayer?  Dutch Sheets, a teacher and speaker, has put together a book that will answer these questions. Easy to understood and written to inform people about prayer and why and how the need for prayer is important.. He shares many stories of how people have prayed for many things and definitely seen answers. He does not say that they will be answered in the way you may want them answered or when they will be answered, but that there will be answered. He shares many miracles that he has seen and some that were shared with him. It is a great book for understanding prayer and how God will ask us to pray for many things by using the Holy Spirit and he (Dutch) uses scripture to make his point. The book is one of the best books about prayer that can you can find.

A Biblical definition of intercessory prayer from the book: “Intercessory prayer is an extension of the ministry of Jesus through His Body, the Church, whereby we mediate between God and humanity for the purpose of reconciling the world to Him, or between Satan and humanity for the purpose of enforcing the victory of Calvary.”

He adds a collection of stories and anecdotes of people who have gone through their 40 days or years, or hours and how their 41 has come by the grace of God. Hurts in the Church

THE BRIDE(ZILLA) OF CHRIST

What to do When God’s People Hurt God’s People

By Ted Kluck & Ronnie Martin

Hurt within the church body happen, it does not matter what church you attend, it happens. The people do the hurting. Sometimes they receive the hurt other times they do the hurting. People make up the church, each one will have their own ideas and opinions and this will cause problems if we let it. In this book, the two authors explore the hurt that can happen by others or by you. They share stories of many things that they know took place, either to them or to others. Some help is offered in handling the hurts and some Biblical references are offered.

The types of hurts and personality conflicts that can take place because of self-centeredness, selfishness and wanting to be in charge are discussed.

I thought some of the stories were too long and could have been done in a different way, however their point was made.

The hurt is not the deepest thing. Grace is deeper still.

The Apostles' Creed - Why it is important.

WHAT CHRISTIANS OUGHT TO BELIEVE

An Introduction to Christian Doctrine Through

The Apostles’ Creed

By Michael F. Bird

The Apostles’ Creed has been part of the Church for centuries and even forgot by some of the Churches. The Apostles’ Creed is a very important part in exploring and understanding the basic teachings of the Christian faith. This book will help give the creed the attention that it deserves. Michael Bird gives a complete history of the Apostles Creed and an in-depth definition of each part. He has divided the definition into fourteen chapters that will give you a new understanding what the Creed says and why it is importance in the Church. There is a comparison of different creeds and how each one came able, the Church history that may have affected the creed and most important of all he uses scripture to prove the importance of the creed. The author uses some humor in his explanation and some stories that help get his point across. At the end of the book is a section listing the scripture verses for you to use as reference.  A list of recommended additional readings is offered at the end of each chapter.

I found the book to be very informative and worth the time to read, even if you know the creed and had memorized it in Church. The book would be a good source for study and discussion groups and a great addition to any library.

Angels

ANGELS

Who They Are, What They Do, and Why It Matters

By Dr Jack Graham

Got questions about angels, are they just myths, or are they created by God. Dr Graham’s book will help answers these questions. Dr Jack Graham covers the subject of angels from all points and shares some very informative facts about who angels are and what they do. He shares different stories about how angels have helped protect people and ministered to others.

He give scripture to back up his facts as to where they come from and who they are and he divide the facts into four parts.

1.    Wisdom of Angels

2.    Protection of Angels

3.    Encouragement of Angels

4.    Presence of Angels

Then by dividing each of those parts into smaller and easy to understand information, you will see a strong case for the reality of angels and what they do and why they do it. There is a good chance after you read this book, that you will remember a time or two when an angel helped you.

I think Jack Graham gets his point across and proves that angels do exist and provided to us by God as a guardian to guide us each day. This information will be helpful in Bible Studies and discussions, easy to read and inspiring.

Christ in the Old Testament

CHRIST IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

Types and Illustrations of Jesus

12 Old Testament People Who Foreshadowed Christ

By Rose Publishing

Actions and events that anticipated Christ showing Christ in the Old Testament is the subject of this full colored pamphlet. Beautifully illustrated with charts that show parallels between Christ and 12 people of the Old Testament. By using a study of “types” called typology, the pamphlet shows that there is a parallel. For example, when Paul wrote in Romans 5:12 about Adam being a figure of someone to come meaning Christ, Adam was a type and Jesus is an antitype {opposite}. By using charts showing examples like this helps with a new understanding of scripture. Scripture verses are used throughout. People like Abraham, David, Samuel, and Joshua are shown in the chart. For your learning experience, a question is asked in each chart for you to stop and think able, making it easier to understand.

I would suggest this pamphlet for Bible studies, discussion group and family studies, a great reference tool.
