Heaven and Hell

Are They Real

By Christopher D Hudson

Everyone has questions about Heaven and Hell, whether they believe in them or not. This book can help answer those questions. Christopher Hudson divides his book into two sections, questions about Heaven and questions about Hell. At the end of the book there is an appendix listing Bible verses as a reference to help answer the questions. The author uses quotes from contemporary and ancient authors and scholars in his answering the questions. Some of the questions came from doing surveys. The questions cover many things about both places that you may not have thought of yourself.

The book will be a help for those who do not believe in Heaven and Hell to understand that they do exist and are real. If you know scripture, some of questions may seem unnecessary, but remember not everyone knows God's word. I found, the list of scripture verses very helpful, and would recommend using them in you quest of finding the truth about Heaven and Hell. The book is very easy reading and has a large amount of information.

Four Cups

God's Timeless Promises for a Life of Fulfillment

By Chris Hodges

The Four Cups is about the cups, the four promises, of the Passover meal that the Israelites ate the night before the Exodus from Egypt. The book discusses how these Four Cups continue to be important as God's promises to us in the New Testament.

A quote from the book:

God wants to rescue you from bondage.
He wants to deliver you from whatever holds you back.
He wants you to discover his original intention for your life.
And he wants you to be a part of a family that makes a difference.

The Four Cups are the cup of sanctification, the cup of deliverance, the cup of redemption, and the cup of promises. Chris explains the promises and the freedom through Jesus Christ that God promises us. He devotes a chapter to each of the Four Cups and how they are needed today. He offers scripture verses and a prayer at the end of each chapter.

The book is not long and can be read is a short time, easy to understand and he offers in the last chapter, to church leaders and group leaders, a way to use the information for Bible studies or other worship services. I found the book to be very informative and worth the time to read and will make you stop and think about your walk with Jesus Christ.

Crash the Chatterbox

Hearing God's Voice Above All Others

By Steven Furtick

We all have negative things in our head and heart that seems to tell us lies and keeps us from our God-given potential. These things seem to be voices that tell us that we are insecure, tells us to be fearful, that condemns us and discourages us. This is the chatterbox or enemy that keeps us from hearing God.

A quote from the book: "The only opportunity the chatterbox ever has to download lies into our heads is if we have allowed it first to delete the memory of who we are in Christ."

When things come into your heads like; you are unworthy, your sins cannot be forgiven, you come up short, or you are unable to do that; ask the question "Who told you that?". God will not give insecurity, fears, condemn you or discourage you. I found the section on handling our fears very helpful, how to deal with the "What if's" in our lives.

Steven Furtick gives examples of each of these and helps us to deal with them. He gave examples from his own life and stories from others that have dealt with these things. Pastor Furtick sets aside a section of the book with discussion questions to help you to overcome and silence the lies and hear God's voice tell you the truth over the chatterbox. He also has some other resources that are available, if you are interested. The book is not a easy read, it is thought provoking and needs to be read slowly to get the points offered by Pastor Furtick.

We need to embrace God and listen for His still small voice that will help us to overcome the lies with the truth.

Hear my word to you this day: Do not be fainthearted or afraid when you face a spiritual battle with Satan and his army. Do not be terrified or give way to panic before them. For I am the Lord your God, and I am the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies and to give you victory. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified, for I will go with you. I will never leave you nor forsake you. I am your light and your salvation---whom should you fear? I am the stronghold of your life---of whom should you be afraid?

HEAVEN IS FOR REAL -- Special Movie Edition

A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back

By Todd Burpo with Lynn Vincent

In this book, you will find the original book of Heaven is for Real along with some added chapters by Todd Burpo. There is a chapter about how the book had affected their lives and how the movie came about. There are chapters with interviews with actors, producer, screenwriter and others connected with the movie. Information and background about the movie is given.

The most important thing, I think, about the book is the original book is included. This book is about Colton Burpo (a four-year-old) and the experience of going to heaven while being operated on for a ruptured appendix. This story sound like it came from the twilight zone, but backed by Biblical facts. Unbelievable, as it may seem, his experience held many truths. Todd Burpo, his father, tells his story from his son’s perspective, a four year old. The information Colton gave at to what he seen in heaven is amazing. The facts he finds out about his family in heaven, things he did not know or every heard about, is a miracle. The story is heartwarming and gives us knowledge of heaven that we may not have known. If you know the Bible you will see the connections and know the truth, you will know that there is no way a four year old could make up a story with such detail.

Some Thoughts I want to Share

I enjoy the older songs and hymns that are more in tune, in my opinion, with how I worship and when unbelievers hear them, they will realize what He has done and can do. The songs of praise, which most of the newer songs are, are songs of praising God for His great love and creation. As believers, we need to praise God for what He has done and will do in our lives. I think we need a mixture of each to be able to worship Him.

I love the Lord and want to worship Him with all my heart and mind. I want to keep His commandments and do His will. Satan wants our attention and will do whatever he can to get it. Remember he is a fallen angel, a dark angel, and will try to make us think he is an angel of light. He likes and enjoys the cartoon image the world has given him, the little red devil with a pitch fork, this makes him look cute and gives him the attention he wants.

The things we need to remember is that we need to keep our mind centered on God, not to let our focus go to other things and that we have the Holy Spirit to guide us.

Here is a post that I posted in October 2012 that I want to add to this post:

Spiritual Battles

Did you ever hear anyone make the statement -- The enemy or Satan did that or caused that. I have heard conversations where people will give Satan or demons more credit for things happening in their life then they do God. When we do this, we are not centering our mines on God and praising Him. Satan can do no more then what God allows him to do, God allows things to happen, and you can know this by reading the book of Job. God uses these things to make us strong and grow in our faith. God is creator of all things and is in control. The truth is we are in a spiritual warfare but we must keep our minds and hearts centered on Jesus, He has defeated Satan and we have the victory.

Many over emphasize spiritual warfare blaming every sin, problem, and conflict that comes their way on Satan or demons. We are in a spiritual battle at all times and we cannot ignore the spiritual world.

So when things do not seem right in your life praise God and remember you have the victory over the enemy through Jesus Christ.

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:57 NIV

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. Romans 8:37 NLT

In this way, God disarmed the evil rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross of Christ. Colossians 2:15 NLT

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 NIV

yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live. 1 Corinthians 8:6 NIV

always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ Ephesians 5:20 NIV

[Test the Spirits] Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1 NIV

Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 NLT

Keep you eyes upon Jesus and he will see you through.

JESUS HAS WON THE VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Experiencing the Savior's Presence When You Need Him Most

By Ken Gire

Author Ken Gire writes stories from his life, history and the Bible that will inspire you to look for Christ in all things. When we are in the middle of our personal storms and feel that we are alone, after reading the stories in this book we will realize that we are not alone, that God is with us in our storms. You will find that God is helping us at all times, even when we think that He has deserted us, we will find out that He has carried us over the ruff places. The author has a chapter about seeing God in our surroundings. He also shows how God can use people to help us. After reading this book, you should be more at ease about the storms that may come up in your life. The book is not long and is a very easy read. The book contains a lot of helpful information.

A quote from the book:

"The gift of peace in the storm, the gift of calm is, in so many quiet ways, woven into God's good gift of creation"

This tells me God knows about the storms, when they will be, and that He will be with us in all things.
