Stealing From God

STEALING FROM GOD
Why Atheists Need God To Make Their Case
By Frank Turek
Stealing from God shows how many atheists try to disprove God existence end up proving His existence.
The author uses C-R-I-M-E-S for his lay out of chapters.
C – Causality
R – Reason
I - Information & Intentionality
M – Morality
E – Evil
S - Science
The four-point case for mere Christianity
The author shares debates and arguments that have taken place between atheists and theists. The arguments, on all subjects, are covered in each of the above-mentioned chapters. Whichever side you want to agree with, you will find something of interest. (The science arguments get deep and I found it a little hard to follow at times, then I am not a scientist.) Many questions are asked and answered; the author proves his point of the book that the atheists need God to make their case. His last chapter titled Conclusion, which states that God will not force you into heaven against your will.
I will end with the thought; Why, if the atheists do not believe in God, do they work so had to prove He doesn't exist?

Believe

BELIEVE Living The Story Of The Bible To Become Like Jesus General Editor Randy Frazee Do you know what you believe and why it matters? Need answers to these questions; · What do I believe? · What should I do? · Who am I becoming? This book can help with the answers. Randy Frazee divides these three questions into ten chapters each with a number of short remarks and then quotes from the New International Version of the Bible. The three sections are; Think, Act and Be. Think is what do I believe about God, personal God, salvation, the Bible and six others. Act is what should I do about worship, prayer, total surrender, to name just three of the ten. Be will answer the question who am I becoming and covers love, joy, peace, hope, are among the ten in this section. His choice of quotes from the Bible lets God's word answer the questions. I found the book easy to read and contains a wealth of information. The book can be used as a Bible study and should offer some great discussions for group study. In addition, the book would be great for new Christians to learn the Bible. STORM

STORM Hearing Jesus For The Times We Live In By Jim Cymbala with Jennifer Schuchmann What is happening in the church in America today? Is the light of Jesus that we shine before people, growing dark? Has a storm cut us off from our power source? Is the church of Christ disappearing into a dark night? These are the questions we, as Christians, need to be asking ourselves. Quoting Jim from the book:
"I believe followers of Jesus in America are on the cusp of something horrible. I, and many others, see the early warning signs all around. You may see them too. I want you to consider these specifically." He then explains these three warning signs, 1. We're not as big as we think, 2. Personal transformation is rare, and 3. Biblical literacy is declining In this book, Jim Cymbala addresses what is taking place in America today. Jim offers help to weather the storm and how we need to get God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit back into our church services and our lives. He shares experiences of people who have done this. In their own words, they describe what has taken place in their own lives. Some of the things talked about are disturbing and unsettling, but are things that we need to be aware of. In America, we have pushed God out, some of our preachers are more concerned about the number of people attending church then telling them about Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I found this book easy reading and thought provoking, a book with a lot to offer all Christians to live and share the light of Jesus and how we need to keep the light from being darkened by the storm. Jesus is the light, keep that light lit, keep the storm from darkening that light. The Shemitah

THE MYSTERY OF THE SHEMITAH
The 3000-year-old mystery that holds the secret of America's future and the world's future ..... and your future.
By Jonathan Cahn
The Shemitah, the Sabbath year, also called the sabbatical year is the seventh year of the seven-year agricultural cycle mandated by the Torah for the Land of Israel. What does this have to do with us today? If you have not read the authors other book, the Harbinger, I would suggest you get a copy. It is a comparison of the judgment of Israel in the year of 586 BC and the United States today. Jonathan gives evidence to things that took place over the years that are more than coincidences that they only can be from the Hand of God. He offers a list of things that have taken place and how they connect with the Shemitah years. He writes able the falling away from God by the United States and how this is connected with what has and is taking place.
I thought the information he spoke about in the Harbinger was interesting, but tie it in with this book, the Shemitah, and you get a new way of looking at our history.
A quote from the back cover; "The book you can't afford NOT to read. It is already affecting your life....And it WILL affect your future!"
Read the book, thinks about what you the information and draw your own conclusion. I think, you will see why things have to change in the United States.
The opinion expressed here is my personal opinion. I purchased this book and wanted to inform the readers of my blog what I thought of this book.

THE 8 GREAT DEBATES OF BIBLE PROPHECY Understanding The Ongoing Controversies By Ron Rhodes Bible prophecy, what are the different beliefs and should they be debated? He gives a description of the different beliefs and evidence for the different beliefs. He lays all the evidence on the table for you to understand the differences. The subjects covered are;

The Skeleton’s in God’s Closet

THE SKELETONS IN GOD'S CLOSET
By Joshua Ryan Butler
Does God have skeletons in His closet? If He does, are the skeletons the same as we normally think of when we say someone had skeletons in their closet? This book by Joshua Ryan Butler should help answer these questions.
The author makes reference to caricatures, which is a distorted view of something, (such as a cartoon version of a celebrity), not a true view, a photograph, of that thing or person. Joshua explains how we view God as a sadistic torturer, cold-hearted judge and a genocidal maniac; then sets the record straight with the truth. He offers examples from life and makes it easy to understand the truth.
A quote from the book:
" As we shall see, not only does God not have skeletons, God Himself is good in His very bones: not just in what He does, but in who He is; not only in His actions, but in the architecture of His character, the beauty of His being, the depths of His divine affection for the world."
The author divides the book into three sections about Hell, Judgment and Holy Wars. At the end of each chapter, Joshua gives a key idea about that chapter. The information offered should help the way we see God, not a distorted view but a true view of who God really is.

God’s Plan

THE COMING ISLAMIC INVASION OF ISRAEL By Mark Hitchcock Final Jihad: How close are we? The battle of Gog and Magog prophesied in Ezekiel 38 and 39 is the subject of this book. A small book with a lot of information about what God has planned. The book answers the questions as to who the invading forces are and what modern day countries are involved, where it will take place and why it will happen. Mark Hitchcock, a noted writer on Bible Prophecy, tells this story in a way that is easy to understand why this is important to Christian and non-Christians. A quote from the book: "God says that the events of this great end-time battle will happen that "they will know that I am the Lord" (Ezekiel 39:6, 7, 28)”. Another quote "The purpose of the great prophecy of the Battle of Gog and Magog is to lead men and women to see the glory, majesty, and sovereignty of God so that they turn to Him and come to know who He is." The author devotes the last chapter to a invitation, to all who do not know the Lord as their personal savior, to take that step to know the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. A Beautiful Defeat

A BEAUTIFUL DEFEAT

Find True Freedom And Purpose In Total Surrender To God

By Kevin Malarkey with Matthew L Jacobson

Surrendering to God can be a difficult thing to do; this book by Kevin Malarkey can help. Kevin gives ten concepts that help us to surrender to God. Each chapter covers a concept with an interesting story and what you learn, can be a help in surrendering your lives to God. Each chapter has an action step and a prayer at the end to help you with your steps to surrender. I found the information and concepts very interesting and helpful in walking closer with God. God knows our hearts and He will be with us in all things. We need to desire a closer walk and surrender ourselves to Him.

Some of the steps covered are:

  • Determine to live through your struggles rather than around them.
  • Become addicted to your need for God.
  • Define your mission and wear your armor.

I found these things covered in this book very helpful.

Miracle in a dry season

MIRACLE IN A DRY SEASON

A novel by Sarah Loudin Thomas

A heartfelt story-taking place in mid-1950's in a small West Virginia town. A young girl and her daughter move in with her aunt and uncle who own the local general store. Rumors start in this small town and bring out a lot of bad feelings. The main character, a young woodworker tries his best to help the young girl even though he has his own problems with his sick dad and a local preacher. To add to the problems the area is hit hard by a drought. The story is well written and details of the characters and the 50's timeline make you feel you are there and know the people. The author added a Bible based background and used scripture verses in the story.

The story shows how people can make mistakes in life and can be forgiven, how a forgiving heart and a strong faith is needed in life. The story also shows how people can join together in times of trouble and help each other. This is a love story, a story of forgiveness and a story of cruelty. I found the book very easy reading and the storyline kept my interest through the book.

Quick-Start Guide to the Bible

THE QUICK-START GUIDE TO THE WHOLE BIBLE

Understanding the Big Picture Book-by-Book

By Dr. William H. Marty and Dr. Boyd Seevers

I have read and seen many guides to the Bible and have enjoyed this one very much. The authors do an expanded summary of each book, not just a couple of paragraphs. The book is about 300 pages long. They explain who wrote the book, what each book means and give highlights of each book in an easy to understand text. This book will give you a basic understanding of each book and will help you when you read the Bible. It gives you a lot more information than the short summaries that are included in most Bibles. I would suggest keeping the guide handy as you read through the Bible, it can be a very helpful reference book. The authors seem to have put a lot of effort and study into what information they have supplied and have written it in a way that everyone will be able to understand the basics of the Bible.

Understanding Revelation

THE BOOK OF REVELATION MADE CLEAR

By Tim LaHaye &Timothy E. Parker

The authors make the book of Revelation easy to understand. In my opinion, they do an outstanding job to give all readers a easy to understand meaning of what Revelation is about and the importance of the prophecy. They start each section with three multiple-choice questions about each verse or verses. They take you through Revelation verse by verse revealing the Biblical meaning of each verse or a group of verses, give backgrounds on the subject and culture of the time. Where needed they quote other scriptures to back up different points. At the end of each section, you are given the correct answers to the questions asked at the beginning of the section. The complete book of Revelation is divided into 77 sections, making it easy to understand and does not rush you through the study.

I would recommend this book to new readers and to those who have read Revelation, to get an understanding of the prophecies, something we all need. The book is not an in depth study, but one that all Christians need to take to heart about the end times. Revelation is the last book of the Bible and Jesus wants us to know and understand what is going to take place.

The Time Keeper

THE TIME KEEPER

By Mitch Albom

I found this fictional story very interesting, the story tells how father time became father time. The main character Dor start out wanting to keep track of time in everything he does. He invents different way to keep track of time, like the water clock and the calendar. The story tells many parts of his life, from his childhood to his adult life and ends up in a cave as father time. The story continues with Dor tells stories of two people, Sarah Lemon and Victor Delamonte. Sarah, a teenager, and Victor, a elderly businessman, want to stop time or get more time for what they think is important. Neither knows the other but they will before the end of the story. The story shows how our lives can interact with others. A fascinating story of how we will try to manipulate things for what we think is the best way. This book will inspire you and will help you to understand the true meaning of time.

Here is a quote from the book that I like; Dor was talking to Victor about why there is a limit on our days:

"There is a reason God limits our days."

"Why?"

"To make each one precious."

PURSUING JUSTICE

PURSUING JUSTICE

The Call To Live & Die For Bigger Things

By Ken Wytsma with D. R. Jacobsen

Justice, what is it? The author will help you understand what it is and why it matters. Ken explains that God is a just God and how Christians need to understand God's justice. Ken offers many examples to justice and injustices that take place in this world. He offers scriptures on how God is a just God, and how God want us to do justice in a needy world.

The book is very informative and is on a subject that Christians need to understand. At times, we will follow our own ambitions, dreams, and end up making things worse than they are. I think the author makes many excellent points and are points that need our understanding for a better world.

Some areas Ken covers are Justice as a way of knowing God, How justice informs love, How empathy carries justice, and many others. The book will make you think about how you act, worship and live.

Ken offers some disturbing statistics about Christianity in the USA and gives examples of how Christians can do more of an injustice when we think we are doing justice and being helpful. The book will open your eyes to why God's justice is important.

NIV Fast Facts Bible

NIV FAST FACTS BIBLE

Fascinating Trivia from the Most Read Book in History

In this new Bible, you get the complete NIV translation and questions at the end of each book. The start of each book has a introduction page that gives information about the book, interesting facts and key verse of the book. Included with each book of the Bible you have reviews question about what you have read. The questions are in a quiz form on different subjects like; "Who Dunnit" , "Time Traveler" and "Minutime & Miscellany". The question will help you understand what you have read. These questions are useful for a Bible study for small groups or for your own personal studying. To answer the questions will require you to stop and think about what you had covered in the book. I found it interesting and enjoyed reviewing what I had read. The questions will not cover everything that you can learn from the Bible, but it is a start.

The only thing I did not like was that some of the review questions are at the beginning of the books, this was done with many of the short books, In my opinion they should have put all the review questions at the end of each book.

This Bible offers a different and interesting way of Bible reading and study that was not done before plus you get the NIV translation.

As in the days of Noah

AS IT WAS IN THE DAYS OF NOAH

Warning from Bible Prophecy About the Coming Global Storm

By Jeff Kinley

Is Jesus's prophecy in Matthew 24:37 coming true?

"As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man."

As you read this book, you will get a understanding of Jesus's prophecy and get a new understanding of the days of Noah. Jeff Kinley writes a description of what took place in Noah's day and compares that with what is going on in the world today. Jeff gives a view of the Noah story that is different from the children story we may have learned in Sunday school. It is a story of how mankind had become indigent to God and how they were doing whatever they wanted, also a story of mankind ignoring God and His ways. Jeff does a great job comparing Noah's time and our time. Great reading for believer and non-believers, inspiring and will make you think about what is to come.

God will judge the world again. Examine the clues that reveal when the last days will come.

Red Sea Rules

THE RED SEA RULES

10 God-Given Strategies for Difficult Times

By Robert J Morgan

The Red Sea rules are the rules God set for the Israelites are rules we need to follow today. In this book, Robert J Morgan describes the rules of the Red Sea and they apply today. This book is not a big book, only 10 chapters, but as the old saying goes, “Good things come in small packages." Robert has packed a lot of information in an easy to read book with scripture verses, study questions at the end of each chapter and stories that will inspire you. This book could be read at one setting, but I would suggest taking time and think about what you are reading.

Some of the rules are: Acknowledge your enemy, but keep your eyes on the Lord, Envision God's enveloping presense and Don't forget to praise Him. These and the other seven rules will be very helpful at times you feel you are up against a wall, as the Israelites were at the Red Sea.

Arms Open Wide

ARMS OPEN WIDE

A Call To Linger in the Savior's Presence

By Sherri Gragg

A collection of thirty-four devotionals, a scripture reading and a prayer is included with each. Sherri Gragg writes each in a way that will transport you back to the time of Jesus. She writes from a personal view of the time and story that was in the scripture reading. Well written and moving, the stories make you feel you are there and are an actual part of the story. You are present, or feel you are, at the resurrection of Lazarus, you feel like you are a part of the crowd that was there. She will make you feel like you are present at healings of the sick, the healings of the leper and present in the garden when Jesus they arrested Him.

Learn about Heaven

50 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HEAVEN

BY Dr. John Hart

I think this book is one of the best I have read on the subject of Heaven. I found Dr. Hart's answers to be informative and scriptural based. He gives very easy to understand answers to 50 questions about Heaven we all should know and may have asked. The 50 subjects about Heaven the author chose to answer are very important and asked many times. Some of the questions are about who will go to heaven, what does the Old Testament say about Heaven, what we will do there, who we will see, and many more. Some of the answers may surprise you and will confirm what you already know. One thing this book is not is boring.

When I started to read the book, I did not want to stop but I also wanted to understand each answer before I continued into the next answer. I would recommend this book to be used in discussion sessions and would help all involved to a better understanding where Christians are going to spend eternity.

Home Behind The Sun

HOME BEHIND THE SUN

Connect With God In The Brilliance Of The Everyday

By Timothy Willard and Jason Locy

Home Behind the Sun is about discovering the brilliance of God in the shadows of everyday life. The author wants everyone to find that brilliance in your work, play, families and in everything, you do. The brilliance is God and God is in everything we do. There are fourteen chapters, each on a different subject, which we all go through in our lives. Subjects about how we should see others as God sees them, love, glorifying God in all we do.

The authors quote a lot of different writers and poets but in my opinion come up short on scripture quotes. They give very detailed descriptions about different events in their stories. A book you will want to take your time reading and give thought to each chapter before going on into the next chapter. A chapter offering discussion questions for small groups is included in this book.

Blood Moon Rising

BLOOD MOONS RISING

Bible Prophecy, Israel, And The Four Blood Moons

By Mark Hitchcock

The four blood moons are getting a lot of attention, with all that is going on in the world. Bible prophecy tells about the moon turning to blood before the second coming of Christ. The four-blood moons forecasted in 2014 - 2015, has opened a lot of talk and brought the prophecy to center stage in the Christian community. Mark looks at the prophecy from a Biblical viewpoint and uses scripture to explain what he thinks will happen. He compares his finding with others who have written their interpretation of what may take place. The book is very easy reading and easy to understand and filled with a lot of information.

One thing the Bible tells is that only God the Father knows when the second coming is going to take place He has not even told the Son (Jesus Christ). As to who’s interpretation is right, only time will tell what God has planned, when that time comes we won't be caring one way or the other who was right, because God will be right and we believers will be with Him.

Unexplained Mysteries

UNEXPLAINED MYSTERIES OF HEAVEN AND EARTH

Surprising Insights About Our World And Beyond

By Ron Phillips

Ron Phillips offers solutions to mysteries about the flood, the rapture, the antichrist, the shroud of Turin and other mysteries about God, in this informative book. Ron gives physical evidence to prove many mysteries; many have considered these mysteries to be fairy tales. The answers to the mysteries show the foundation of Christianity to be on facts. He explores mysteries of Hell and gives a description of Hell that should make unbelievers believe that Hell does exist and people make their own choice to go there. The chapter on the rapture shows Biblical truths and explains why the rapture will take place. There are 21 chapters; each explains a mystery with evidence to the solution. The evidence explains the mysteries and is presented in a easy to understand way. I found the evidence very helpful and answered other questions that I had on things in scripture.

The Solomon Seduction

THE SOLOMON SEDUCTION

What You Can Learn From The Wisest Fool In The Bible

By Mark Atteberry

This story of Solomon is about how Solomon fell from the grace of God by the seduction of Satan to commit many sins. Solomon started by following God but it did not take long for him to start breaking God's laws. Mark Atteberry takes you through Solomon’s life and shows how he (Solomon) gets seduced into many sins and shows us how we can be seduced into sin. Mark writes mostly for the male readers showing how men fall into these sins and compares us to Solomon. He tells us how we start to accept some sins and how we come up with excuses for the sin (s). This is easy reading and written with some humor. Mark shares many good points about how we need to be concerned about how we live our lives for Jesus Christ. Mark offers a study guide at the end of the book for you to use. Mark gives good examples to show how we can fall for the same seductions. Read with a open mind and think about what is needed in our lives, not just as individuals but as a group of believers. Remember Adam, the first man, got seduced and we are like Adam, we can fall, so be alert and on guard.

IT’S A GOD THING

IT’S A GOD THING

When Miracles Happen To Everyday People

Created by Don Jacobson and K-LOVE

This is a collection of 46 short stories of how God works in people’s lives. The stories are inspirational and show just how God is still able to work miracles. Those the miracles happen to write the stories, this makes the stories more meaningful and thrilling then having someone else write or tell their story.

I found the stories to be very interesting and agree with the author that wrote, “Miracles are not always big. Sometimes the small ones shout loudest of God's love and care for each of us."

I enjoyed the stories compiled together in one book. It makes interesting reading and you can see just how God loves each one of us and will work in our lives. We only have to look to see the miracles that He does.

God is not dead, as some may say; He works every day in our lives and is always with us.

The Romance of Religion

THE ROMANCE OF RELIGION

Fighting For Goodness, Truth, and Beauty

By Dwight Longenecker

The first thing I want to say is that I believe that Christianity is a faith and not a religion. Now that I said that, I agree that a romance is loving someone, wanting to be with that someone and wanting to protect or stand up for that someone. If being romantic in the Christian faith is loving the Lord, wanting to be with Him and willing to die for Him then we can or want to call it a romance. However, to turn it into a fairy tale type of romance, I disagree. The author’s point of each chapter was understandable but I would start to lose interest as the chapter continued because of the comparison of religion to fairy tale romances and romantic writings. Many readers may find this book interesting because the author explains the meaning of being romantic and offer examples from many writings. The book, well written, and the author makes you realize that we need to look at religion in a different way than just a belief.

The author talks about heroes in fairy tales, romantic novels and movies, to me Jesus Christ is much more than any hero we can find in any story book or movie, Jesus Christ died for us and what we need to is love, worship and praise Him.

100 Tough Questions

100 TOUGH QUESTION

About God and the Bible

By Stephen M. Miller

We all have questions when it comes to God and the Bible, but you will most likely not find the answers in this book. The author explains that he is not a preacher that he graduated from seminary school but continued to be a news journalist. He says he has investigated information from scholars and beliefs to find answers to these questions. He does offer a variety of information, some of it is scripture verses, to most questions, but does not give a set answer. You are to choose the answer you think is right, rather like multiple choose. In my opinion, the idea for the book is good and the material been presented better. The selection of answers, he offers, will get your mind working but you will need a good understanding of the Bible and help from the Holy Spirit to come up with the right answer. The book is not really for someone who is searching for the truth, without any understanding of God's word.

Some of the answers offered seem to be nothing more then someones, not the authors, fictional ideas. My opinion is if you want a truthful answer to questions about God and the Bible, there are other books that do a better job answering them.

Heaven and Hell

HEAVEN & HELL

Are They Real

By Christopher D Hudson

Everyone has questions about Heaven and Hell, whether they believe in them or not. This book can help answer those questions. Christopher Hudson divides his book into two sections, questions about Heaven and questions about Hell. At the end of the book there is an appendix listing Bible verses as a reference to help answer the questions. The author uses quotes from contemporary and ancient authors and scholars in his answering the questions. Some of the questions came from doing surveys. The questions cover many things about both places that you may not have thought of yourself.

The book will be a help for those who do not believe in Heaven and Hell to understand that they do exist and are real. If you know scripture, some of questions may seem unnecessary, but remember not everyone knows God's word. I found, the list of scripture verses very helpful, and would recommend using them in you quest of finding the truth about Heaven and Hell. The book is very easy reading and has a large amount of information.

Four Cups

FOUR CUPS

God's Timeless Promises for a Life of Fulfillment

By Chris Hodges

The Four Cups is about the cups, the four promises, of the Passover meal that the Israelites ate the night before the Exodus from Egypt. The book discusses how these Four Cups continue to be important as God's promises to us in the New Testament.

A quote from the book:

God wants to rescue you from bondage.
He wants to deliver you from whatever holds you back.
He wants you to discover his original intention for your life.
And he wants you to be a part of a family that makes a difference.

The Four Cups are the cup of sanctification, the cup of deliverance, the cup of redemption, and the cup of promises. Chris explains the promises and the freedom through Jesus Christ that God promises us. He devotes a chapter to each of the Four Cups and how they are needed today. He offers scripture verses and a prayer at the end of each chapter.

The book is not long and can be read is a short time, easy to understand and he offers in the last chapter, to church leaders and group leaders, a way to use the information for Bible studies or other worship services. I found the book to be very informative and worth the time to read and will make you stop and think about your walk with Jesus Christ.

Crash the Chatterbox

CRASH THE CHATTERBOX

Hearing God's Voice Above All Others

By Steven Furtick

We all have negative things in our head and heart that seems to tell us lies and keeps us from our God-given potential. These things seem to be voices that tell us that we are insecure, tells us to be fearful, that condemns us and discourages us. This is the chatterbox or enemy that keeps us from hearing God.

A quote from the book: "The only opportunity the chatterbox ever has to download lies into our heads is if we have allowed it first to delete the memory of who we are in Christ."

When things come into your heads like; you are unworthy, your sins cannot be forgiven, you come up short, or you are unable to do that; ask the question "Who told you that?". God will not give insecurity, fears, condemn you or discourage you. I found the section on handling our fears very helpful, how to deal with the "What if's" in our lives.

Steven Furtick gives examples of each of these and helps us to deal with them. He gave examples from his own life and stories from others that have dealt with these things. Pastor Furtick sets aside a section of the book with discussion questions to help you to overcome and silence the lies and hear God's voice tell you the truth over the chatterbox. He also has some other resources that are available, if you are interested. The book is not a easy read, it is thought provoking and needs to be read slowly to get the points offered by Pastor Furtick.

We need to embrace God and listen for His still small voice that will help us to overcome the lies with the truth.

YOU WILL BIND AND EXPOSE ALL DEMONS OF FEAR

YOU WILL BIND AND EXPOSE ALL DEMONS OF FEAR

Hear my word to you this day: Do not be fainthearted or afraid when you face a spiritual battle with Satan and his army. Do not be terrified or give way to panic before them. For I am the Lord your God, and I am the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies and to give you victory. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified, for I will go with you. I will never leave you nor forsake you. I am your light and your salvation---whom should you fear? I am the stronghold of your life---of whom should you be afraid?

HEAVEN IS FOR REAL

HEAVEN IS FOR REAL -- Special Movie Edition

A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back

By Todd Burpo with Lynn Vincent

In this book, you will find the original book of Heaven is for Real along with some added chapters by Todd Burpo. There is a chapter about how the book had affected their lives and how the movie came about. There are chapters with interviews with actors, producer, screenwriter and others connected with the movie. Information and background about the movie is given.

The most important thing, I think, about the book is the original book is included. This book is about Colton Burpo (a four-year-old) and the experience of going to heaven while being operated on for a ruptured appendix. This story sound like it came from the twilight zone, but backed by Biblical facts. Unbelievable, as it may seem, his experience held many truths. Todd Burpo, his father, tells his story from his son’s perspective, a four year old. The information Colton gave at to what he seen in heaven is amazing. The facts he finds out about his family in heaven, things he did not know or every heard about, is a miracle. The story is heartwarming and gives us knowledge of heaven that we may not have known. If you know the Bible you will see the connections and know the truth, you will know that there is no way a four year old could make up a story with such detail.

Some Thoughts I want to Share

I enjoy the older songs and hymns that are more in tune, in my opinion, with how I worship and when unbelievers hear them, they will realize what He has done and can do. The songs of praise, which most of the newer songs are, are songs of praising God for His great love and creation. As believers, we need to praise God for what He has done and will do in our lives. I think we need a mixture of each to be able to worship Him.

I love the Lord and want to worship Him with all my heart and mind. I want to keep His commandments and do His will. Satan wants our attention and will do whatever he can to get it. Remember he is a fallen angel, a dark angel, and will try to make us think he is an angel of light. He likes and enjoys the cartoon image the world has given him, the little red devil with a pitch fork, this makes him look cute and gives him the attention he wants.

The things we need to remember is that we need to keep our mind centered on God, not to let our focus go to other things and that we have the Holy Spirit to guide us.

Here is a post that I posted in October 2012 that I want to add to this post:

Spiritual Battles

Did you ever hear anyone make the statement -- The enemy or Satan did that or caused that. I have heard conversations where people will give Satan or demons more credit for things happening in their life then they do God. When we do this, we are not centering our mines on God and praising Him. Satan can do no more then what God allows him to do, God allows things to happen, and you can know this by reading the book of Job. God uses these things to make us strong and grow in our faith. God is creator of all things and is in control. The truth is we are in a spiritual warfare but we must keep our minds and hearts centered on Jesus, He has defeated Satan and we have the victory.

Many over emphasize spiritual warfare blaming every sin, problem, and conflict that comes their way on Satan or demons. We are in a spiritual battle at all times and we cannot ignore the spiritual world.

So when things do not seem right in your life praise God and remember you have the victory over the enemy through Jesus Christ.

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:57 NIV

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. Romans 8:37 NLT

In this way, God disarmed the evil rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross of Christ. Colossians 2:15 NLT

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 NIV

yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live. 1 Corinthians 8:6 NIV

always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ Ephesians 5:20 NIV

[Test the Spirits] Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1 NIV

Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 NLT

Keep you eyes upon Jesus and he will see you through.

JESUS HAS WON THE VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CHRISTIAN FAITH IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

CHRISTIAN FAITH IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

The Bible of the Apostles

By Gareth Lee Cockerill

We sometimes think or have been told that we do not have to be concerned about the Old Testament; this book will change that way of thinking. Gareth Lee Cockerill gives new insight to the Old Testament and how it applies to life today. He explains how it points to salvation through Jesus Christ and gives a new understanding to the things that took place in the Old Testament. Gareth includes Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and the Prophets for a complete coverage of the Old Testament. He uses charts and diagrams to help you understand the things that took place throughout the old testaments. In the last chapter, he brings the New Testament and Old Testament together in the way the Bible is intended. Discover the source of the apostolic truth of the Old Testament and why the old testament is just as important as the New Testament.

God has great plans for our lives and wants us to understand his plan. We need to understand His word to get this understanding and I feel this book will help. Remember God's word is the whole Bible not just parts.

I found the book thought provoking and inspirational. The book is easy to read and understand, I recommend it for all who desire a better understanding of God's word.

Rich In Years

RICH IN YEARS

Finding Peace and Purpose in a Long Life

Johann Christoph Arnold

Growing older has its problems, but it can be rewarding. Johann, in his seventies, using examples from his own life and the lives of others describes getting older and how it can be rewarding. He offers stories of those who suffer from health issues, such as cancer and dementia. He writes about how our society treats the elderly, the way things should be and why God should be a very important part of our lives as we are growing older.

I am in the older generation and can relate to things he wrote about, taking care of our parents and preparing for what may be ahead of me before God takes me home.

A very informative book. I would recommend to the young person as well as the older person. Remember God is the most important part of us growing older. He is always with us.

The Reason for My Hope

THE REASON FOR MY HOPE -----SALVATION

by Billy Graham

Billy Graham does a great job explaining salvation, why salvation is his reason of hope. In the eight easy, to read chapters he defines sin, hell and most of all salvation. I found the book hard to put down when you start to read. Billy has been telling people about Jesus Christ and salvation for about 70 years and has not lost anything in his enthusiastic description of salvation in this book. I think this should be necessary reading for all believers and non-believers. Billy has many stories of redemption and repentance that he shares with his readers. Billy, in his 90's, still can give a strong reason for accepting Jesus Christ as savor.

He gives many thought provoking statements about how things in America are heading down the moral ladder and why we need salvation. The book is not long but packed with the greatest reason for eternal life.

Romans 1:16-17 NLT

For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.  This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

The Adam Quest

THE ADAM QUEST

Eleven scientists who held on to a strong faith while wrestling with the mystery of human origins

By Tim Stafford

There has been a debate about the origin of the world for many years, this book gives a informed look at Christians working in science. The author covers 11 scientists, each in a separate chapter, that have three different views of the origin of the world and man. Tim covers these three views, young earth, intelligent design and evolutionary creationism. He offers a short summary of these eleven scientist and a look into the beliefs and their scientific work. He lets them speak for themselves on their beliefs and opinions. He writes in an easy to understand way and gives the facts of each. In the last chapter he compares the three different views and offers his own thoughts of each.

Science and faith need to be on one side not opposing sides in the search of the truth. This book shows how we can get science back into the church without the fear of destroying our faith in the Bible.
