Finding the Love of Jesus

FINDING THE LOVE OF JESUS

From Genesis to Revelation

By Elyse Fitzpatrick

This book is to help you get a deeper understanding of the Bible. From the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation you see that Jesus is throughout the Bible and not just in the New Testament as some think. You will learn how Jesus spoke about women and how they played a big role in the Bible. The author has directed her writing to women, but a lot of the information she shares should be known by men as well. Some of her interpretations may not agree with what you have been told or heard but read the book with an opened mind and see what she has understood from her interpretation. Her interpretations will show areas that you may not have expected to find Jesus, but you will see the love of Jesus is everywhere. One endorser of the book said, “this book makes me want to read my Bible.” Elyse covers the love of Jesus in the books of Moses, in the prophets, the law and, of course, in the Gospels. Each chapter include some discussion questions at the end, that will help you to understand that chapters information and get you to thinking about the Jesus’s Love and what the Bible says about that.

The book is not a long book, it goes right to the point the author is trying to make and could be used in Bible studies and discussion groups.

Always Enough / Never Too Much

ALWAYS ENOUGH / NEVER TOO MUCH

By Jess Connolly & Hayley Morgan

A devotional to quit comparing, stop hiding and start living wild and free.

This is not like other devotionals, there are no days or dates for you to read each day. You get 100 devotions to read in any order that you wish. The devotions are written for women to help them in many areas. It is separated into two parts: (1) You are always enough, (2) You are never too much. The big different is how it is separated. The book is printed as a FLIP Book, meaning that you read one part then FLIP the book over to read the other part. They have used different color borders on the bottom of the pages and use a different color ribbon marker for each part. Each part has a table of content that makes it easy to find a certain topic.

The most important thing is that each of the 50 devotions covers a different topic as: Even when you make mistakes, Even when you feel unqualified are just two in the You Are Always Enough. In the You Are Never Too Much you have, Even when you have goals, Even when you cry easily. Each devotion has a scripture verse and a devotional story to cover each topic.

You will find the help offered by the authors is sound advice and will be of help in each situation. The book is worth reading and will be a big help in many areas.

Jess Connolly and Hayley Morgan share equality in writing this devotion and are the authors of an earlier book Wild and Free.

Blind Faith

BLIND FAITH

A Christian Love Story

By Kristen and Kevin Collier

A beautiful love story about a young man getting ready to head off to art school and finds the love of his life in a blind date. Wesley has graduated from high school and is hoping to spend the summer shooting hoops with his friends before he leaves for art school in the fall. After his friend sets up a blind date his life changes. He falls in love with Morgan and he learns some hard facts about one of his friends. You will meet his sister, mother and dad, Morgan’s grandmother and other characters that all add something to the story. The authors tell about the adventures of that summer, what takes place after Wesley goes to art school, giving wonderful details, that makes it a story you want to follow. The story is Christian based and teaches about love and that love is not something of the mind but of the heart.

The story writers give you interesting characters which make them believable and you will feel like you know them. The story holds your interest and you will not want to stop reading. It is a short story about young love that is beautiful, displaying the truth that we are sometimes put in places where we must go on blind faith. There are some surprises in the story that will draw you deeper into this wonderful story of young love. I would like to see the continuation of the story in other books. My wife also read the copy and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Unlike other books on my blog and my other reviews, I received a pdf copy of this book from the authors for my honest opinion of the book.

14000 Quips and Quotes

14,000 QUIPS AND QUOTES

A Collection of Motivational Thoughts and Humorous One-liners Categorized for Ease of Use

Compiled by E. C. McKenzie

This book is designed for ministers, speakers, teachers or for any other person who would do public speaking or anyone who would like to add a humorous or motivating thought to an email, letter or church bulletin. All speakers can use help with adding one liners to their speeches. E. C. McKenzie was a minister who collected and compiled these quips and quotes, originally published by Baker Book House Publishing and republished with Baker’s permission by Hendrickson Publisher, for all speakers to use. There are thousands of quotes that are categorized in over 500 hundred different subjects and topics. An index lists the topics alphabetically making them very easy to find. You will find a quip or quote on most any subject. Some topic may have other topics listed under it making it easy to locate what you want. (example: aims- see goals, ideas).

There are subjects for most any age and the sayings could add to your speech. You will fine quotes on food, religion, automobiles, marriage and many others. The quips and quotes do not have any origin or persons name connected to them, they are just simple fact type sayings that will add to any speech or talk. I have checked through many of the topics that might have problem quotes that some may find offensive. I did not find any that were offensive to me but that would be entirely up to the one using them in their speech to make that final decision.

Here is an example from the topics of the Bible and Prayer:

“The Bible is most helpful when it is open.”  ---  A small boy said to his best friend, “It may be unconstitutional, but I always pray before an exam.”

As you can see the quotes carry truths with them. Use them to add some extra clarity to what you are speaking about. Just setting and reading the one liners can be a way of spending time with the family and seeing the humorous side of things.

The Daniel Key

THE DANIEL KEY

20 Choices That Make All the Difference

By Anne Graham Lotz

Everyone has heard the story of Daniel and his time he spent in the lion’s den and how God protected him, but do they think or know about Daniel and his faith or about him being highly esteemed by God. If he did not have the kind of faith that does not waver in times of looking at death, the story may have ended differently. Daniel’s faith was in God and nothing changed that. He made the choice to listen, forgive and pray when things look the darkest. Daniel learned that certain things can made a difference. In this book Anne Graham Lotz shares these differences and how they have helped her. Some of the differences are: worship, loyalty, praying God’s Word, attitude are just a few that are presented in a devotional form in this book. She starts with a Bible verse, then adds a story about how the differences helped Daniel or helped her. She gives a section titled Think About It that can help you with that devotion. A closing prayer is offered at the end of each devotion that may be a help for you if you are having a problem in that area. The in-depth look at Daniel’s life and his faith in God is very important to all who want to follow Christ.

This is a small book and consists of twenty devotions that contain a lot of information that will be very helpful. It can be used as a study or a discussion book.
