Christ among other gods

CHRIST AMONG OTHER GODS

A Defense of Christ in an Age of Tolerance

By Erwin W. Lutzer

Ever heard someone say, “All religions worship or have the same God”? Well this book by Edwin Lutzer will give proof that all religions are not the same. He gives proof in the twelve chapters of this book that all religions are different, pointing out many details from each religion. He provides proof that the truth is in Christ. He was invited and attended a convention of the Parliament of the World’s Religions, a group that is trying to make a one world religion possible, and some of the things discussed at that convention.  He shares how some think we are to be tolerant of all religions and their beliefs.

Erwin has described the extraordinary birth, life, authority, death, resurrection, ascension and return of Christ. The facts that he offers are well explained and are Biblical based. The facts tell the true story of Jesus, the way to salvation and how the other religions do not even come close to the truth.

I would recommend this book for discussion groups, Bible studies and as a way of increasing your knowledge of what is going on in the world and why we need to be aware of the changes that some are trying to force on us.

NKJV Unapologetic Study Bible

NKJV UNAPOLOGETIC STUDY BIBLE

Confidence For Such A Time As This

Published by Thomas Nelson critical issues.

This Bible has hundreds of articles, profiles and other features besides the scripture, to help you with morally and spiritually critical issues. The goal of this Bible is to inspire you to a Christlike thought and belief.  Each book starts with an introduction to context and content, a color chart that uses eight subjects, Church, Corruption, Economics, Education, Family, Government, Sanctity of Life, and Virtue. Each of these subjects are divided into four sections: Biblical, Historical, Quotations/Writings and Commentary. The charts show which subjects are included in each book. The articles are well written and very informative, they add to the understanding of God’s Word and makes this study Bible different from other study Bibles. At the front of the Bible there is a very good explanation of the features and subjects, I think this explanation is very important to your use of this Bible.

The notes and features are based on Kairos Journal and are to instruct and encourage Christians who desire to see Biblical change in their homes and workplace. Some feature included are; over 50 profiles of historical figures, quotations from historical figures, 220 articles placed near relevant passages and indexes of each feature to help in a topical study of the Bible. There are indexes at the back of the Bible for a Canonical or Topical studies.

This Bible covers many areas that are not covered in other study Bibles and would be an asset to everyone’s library, whether you are a pastor, Sunday school teacher, a discussion group leader or just a lay person wanting a greater understanding of the Bible. This Study Bible helps you to stand with God in today’s culture. In the articles that I had read, for this review, I found them to be scriptural sound and very informative on the subject they were written for and am sure they would be a great help to all.

At One Ment

ATONEMENT

Growing to Knowing God

By Jan Ellis

This book is a devotional with the month and day design, so you can use it year after year if you want. The design is simpler to most devotionals, you start with a scripture verse or a quote from a noted author. Two of her favorites are Charles Spurgeon and Oswald Chambers. After the opening quote or verse she has a short devotion about how she wants to share God’s message or a short story to go with the opening. She has added quotes to accent her point of view. Her main purpose with the book is to share God’s Word and use points of the Lord’s Prayer and atonement as a guide. Some of those points are: Avowing, Hallowing, Showing, Sowing, and Glowing. The devotional readings are very interesting and thought provoking and shares some points that we all need to think about.

I found the book very interesting and written well and with a desire to share God’s Love and Word with all who reads it. In my opinion the author has put together a very good devotional that would be a blessing to all and is worth sharing with others.

A quote from one of the devotions that sums up the purpose of the author;

“However, that is the simple truth, and what this book is all about. My prayer is that you will continue to be reminded of the love that compels our Lord to seek us—every day, in every way. The love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

Trusting the Bible

7 REASONS WHY YOU CAN
TRUST THE BIBLE

By Erwin W. Lutzer

Can you trust the Bible? Many answer this question, no. Others will answer, yes. Erwin W. Lutzer will be one of those answering Yes. In this book he gives seven reasons why he thinks you can trust the Bible. The reasons are from different sources and viewpoints.

They reasons are:
A Logical Reason, The Bible claims to be God’s Word
A Historical Reason, History confirms the Bible’s reliability
A Prophetic Reason, Bible prophecies prove its truthfulness
A Christological Reason, Christ affirmed the Bible’s authority and truth
A Scientific Reason, Science supports Biblical creation
A Providential Reason, God’s people, by His providence, recognized the Canon
A Personal Reason, The Bible has power to change lives

He gives information from many sources and both sides of the argument. The viewpoints of atheists, scientists and others are shared. He uses archaeology finds, historical writing and the theological views on the subject. He gives a history of how we got the Bible and uses the Bible to prove why the Bible is trustworthy.

I think this is one of those book that will be well worth the reading and that it contributes a lot of useful information on a subject that is important to our faith. I found it is easy to read and understand.  I would recommend using it in group discussions and as a reference book. There is a Bible DVD and study guide available.

The author ends the book with a chapter to the doubter, he gives some words of help and offers this statement;
“If you find yourself wanting to believe but unable to do so, let me stress the need to look to Christ. We can do no better than to renew our confidence in Him as the one and only Savior; the One who will not deceive us.”

Reflecting

REFLECTING

By Jerome Schorr

Reflecting, a collection of poems, sayings and observations. The author, Jerome Schorr, has put together a collection of over two hundred of his writings that are quite interesting to read. The writings will make you stop and think about things and some offer a different view point. You may or may not like them, but they are worth the reading. There are some that have a Biblical prospective and others are a worldlier prospective. He shares some observations from riding on public transportation and views of things you can see just watching your surroundings. The fun part of this book is seeing the point of view that the author has shared; some humorous, others opens the world around us and some offers help. They are thought provoking.

An example of the writings, Titled Aging:

If you want it to look good on you.
Act young
If you want to hide it.
Feel young;
It requires physical and mental maintenance.
Acceptance
Allow you to be distinguished or matronly.
Whatever your choice,
Remember it’s how you wear it that counts the most.

I found the writing very easy to read and informative. They will add to your day and may make you observe your surroundings differently. It is a collection that you may want to read through again.
