Red Letter Words

THE RED LETTER WORDS OF JESUS

By Jack Countryman

Most Bibles published today have the words of Jesus printed in red. The red color is used to represent Jesus's blood that was shed for us. In this book Jack Countryman compiles over 100 of those red-letter passages into a book that can be used like a devotional. The red-letter words are words spoken by Jesus and are important in our relationship with Christ. Jack gives an explanation and background facts about each chosen passage. The red-letter words teach us how to live, Jesus's relationship with God and the Holy Spirit. They also reveal His love for us.

As an enhancement, an illustration has been added to each page that shows the red-letter words. In my opinion, this makes them more like a plaque you would want to hang on your wall, the illustration adds to the beautiful words.

The book is very easy to read and understand, a great addition to anyone’s library. I would recommend using this book as a devotional, Bible study help and as a discussion group topic and study.

EveryJob A Parable

EVERY JOB A PARABLE

What Walmart Greeters, Nurses & Astronauts Tell Us About God

By John Van Sloten

Do you think your job is important to God? Does God think your job is important to Him? The answers can be found in this book about jobs and how they serve God. The author has compiled many stories from across the USA about the different occupations and vocations from the people that work every day for a living. Many of these people do not realize how important their job is and how much God is using that job and them for His glory. Stories from the high paying to the job that own pays minimum wages, every job is important to God. The book is written in four parts; What does it mean to image God?, What is a parable, and how is work a parable?, What does God reveal to us about Himself through our work?, and How can we more effectively and consistently image God through our work?.

A very easy reading and a lot of information in this book. The book can be used in discussion groups and other studies. There are sections at the end of each chapter called Lectio Vocatio, that has some discussion questions.

A quote from the back of the book; “John Van Sloten leads an innovative investigation of vocation. It’s a fascinating journey that illuminates how your work is a parable of God—as you work, you are an icon of grace.”

Eats with sinners

EATS WITH SINNERS

Loving Like Jesus

By Arron Chambers

(In this review, I use “the lost” to signify sinners that are lost, since we are all sinners.)

The author goes into detail about reaching out to the lost with the Gospel and offers methods of reaching out. Using the examples from scripture on how Jesus reached the lost and how we were instructed to do the same. He covers character traits of integrity, accessibility, grace, faith, intimacy, tolerance, resolve, urgency, mercy, humility, investment, joy and vision. The methods described in this book have been proven at the authors church and other churches with good results. Some questions asked are why spending time with the lost is important, do you avoid the lost, is there a degree of sin and others. He shares many stories and examples of how the lost have been reached by others. Each chapter closes with some questions to think about and can be by discussion groups.

The book is well written and easy to understand and can be a blessing to everyone. We are asked by Jesus to reach out to the lost and we are to share the Gospel with all. We can do this by being a friend to that person and by the way we live.

A quote from the introduction:

“Being lost is never fun. Being lost and realizing that no one is looking for you is even worse.”

Remember we were all lost at one time, we are still sinners, but by the grace of God we are forgiven and saved.

What happens after you die?

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU DIE

A Biblical Guide To Paradise, Hell, and Life After Death

By Randy Frazee

What happens after you die is a question most everyone has asked. There are many answers, or what may appear to be answers, in the world. Randy Frazee has written a book that answers that question with a easy to understand reasoning.  The book in written from a Biblical viewpoint and in my opinion the right viewpoint. Randy tells of his struggle with the death of his mother because of cancer. On the way to the hospital for treatment his mother asked him if Jesus was enough. Randy searches God’s word for answers and shares his findings in this well written book. He covers subjects of what happen if I die without Christ, what happens if I die with Christ and other questions concerning heaven and hell. Each chapter offers questions and answers for discussion, making this book easy to use as a Bible study or for Sunday school lessons.

The book is very informative and well worth the time to read and I think the book has a lot to offer everyone, believer or non-believer. The book is easy to read and understand makes for great reading.  There is no question that it answers the question, What happens after you die.
